The Govern Young Professionals scholarship fund is designed to support young professionals interested in effective boardroom governance either in the corporate or non-profit sector. It will be administered by Govern for Impact (formerly the International Policy Governance Association) and is designed to encourage participation at the Govern for Impact annual conference by young professionals around the world. This year, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Govern for Impact conference will be virtual.
Attending our 2020 virtual conference gives the chance for young people to learn about best governance practices from established leaders in the industry and to create individual and collective momentum through sharing their insights and ambitions.
To be considered for this year’s Scholarship funding, please complete the application form and email it to iygpcoordination@gmail.com by MAY 31, 2020.

Here’s what previous scholarship recipients said about their experiences:
The quest for new insights on governance has taken me to many a place but never as far as Canada which was the case last year. I was selected as a scholarship recipient by Govern for Impact to attend the 2019 conference in Quebec. It proved to be a totally enriching experience. I was able to meet and learn from fellow governance enthusiasts in well-designed sessions/workshops held in a nice setting.
These days the gaining of new insights or experiences must involve a screen – a zoom call, a tablet etc. As far as I am concerned, aha moments are the same regardless of the medium by which they are received, and I had a number of those at the conference. Indeed, the principles of policy governance, which were elaborated on my first day, provided several of those. If like me some of those concepts are new to you, then you are in for a treat. More importantly, at a time like this, I am confident Boards can find comfort in these principles.
The conference is also a great opportunity to network and I have had follow up conversations with people I met. I was able to walk taller on my return to the office with some of the insights and connections made. It was not all governance talk– there were other moments – including an awards ceremony and an inspirational final day keynote speaker. All in all, it is an invaluable experience and you are in good hands with the organisers! – Jide Ajomale (attended in Quebec City, Canada, in 2019)
Attending the conference as a scholar and member of IYGP was an incredible experience that broadened my perspective in many ways. It equipped me with useful tools to effectively encourage young participation on boards, and inter-generational knowledge exchange. I was able to widen my network, and learnt loads from talented people who were willing to share their knowledge. – Amanda Moreira (attended in Savannah, GA, USA in 2018)
It was a truly eye-opening experience – and I met many phenomenal people from all around the world. Our generation is faced with so many challenges and attending this conference enabled me to learn how I, as a young governance professional, can facilitate positive change in the organizations I support. – Missy Chareka (attended in Toronto, Canada in 2016)
