The Govern for Impact Young Professionals is a global community of young leaders dedicated to cultivating fresh perspectives in corporate and non-profit governance.

Governance and board positions are typically associated with later stages in careers and knowledge about governance is gained ‘on the job’. However, as failures in governance have become increasingly public, more and more young people have become interested in corporate and non-profit governance as a field of research, theory and practice.

The Govern for Impact Young Professionals community was created based on key findings from a panel session held in 2010. A group of young people involved in board governance, academically and professionally, came together as part of the Young Governors’ Speak plenary session at the 2010 Annual Conference of the International Policy Governance Association (now Govern for Impact) to discuss their experiences in governance and how they viewed the future of governance. This session prompted the idea of broadening this panel session into a wider event for young people interested in corporate and non-profit governance. This resulted in young people creating the first ever International Young Governance Professionals Annual Summit in Toronto, Canada, in June 2013 which was a great success.

The Govern for Impact Young professionals act as observers and advisors to the Board, and members of the conference planning committee to ensure relevant content and opportunities to convene with the young governance professionals. We also administer the Young Governance Professional Scholarship fund.

The Govern for Impact Annual Conference each year is an opportunity to convene each year with other governance professionals and hear from great speakers from around the world. The next Govern for Impact Conference is taking place from June 18-20, 2020 and is taking place virtually.
